Steve’s title list as author has now topped 250 – all illustrated non-fiction books. Some focus on biology (especially the human body), zoology, animal behaviour, ecology, conservation and other aspects of the life sciences.

There are also many titles on general-interest sciences for the younger and family markets, from sharks, dinosaurs and prehistory to volcanoes, space exploration, lasers and magnets.

A basic aim in these books is to describe and explain theories, processes and events for the intelligent but uninformed layperson. There is always room for fresh, exciting and sometimes unpredictable methods of presentation, using stealth tactics, surprise, humour and creative diagrammatics, to grab attention and convey information in refreshing ways. For Steve as an author, integrating with the project team is especially important.
